As a parent of a child enrolled in the Sandy Point Sailing Association, I agree:
  • I will not force my child to participate in the program.
  • I will inform the instructors of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or the safety of others.
  • I will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and wellbeing of the other program participants.
  • I will teach my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.
  • I will demand that my child treat other participants and instructors with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex or ability.
  • I will respect the instructors and their authority during class and will never question, discuss, or confront instructors in the classroom or on the water, and will take time to speak with instructors at an agreed upon time and place.
  • I understand that the officers and board of Sandy Point are volunteers and I pledge to aid their efforts to the best of my ability.
  • I promise to give my child’s instructor and the registrar as much notice as possible if my child will be unable to attend a class. I understand that even short notice is better than no notice.
  • I understand that if my child or I fail to abide by this code of conduct, that my child maybe expelled from the class without any refund and will be banned from further participation in Sandy Point.
 Parent's Frequently Asked Questions

Where should I drop off/pickup my child?
Students should be dropped off and picked up from the Sandy Point Room at the back of the Jubilee Yacht Club. All students should be picked up within 15 minutes following the end of the scheduled class. Please do not block the driveway or idle under the deck behind the Jubilee. Please be considerate of others by keeping the lanes of traffic open.

May I park at Jubilee Yacht Club while my child is in class?
If you are not a member of the Jubilee YC, you may park in the Jubilee lot only for the length of your or your child’s lesson. Please put a note in your windshield indicating you or your child is part of the Sandy Point program if you leave your car and if you are not a member of Jubilee, you may not park to use the beach for the day. Please find a spot on Water Street.

Is there anywhere I can watch my child sail?
Although parents are not permitted out on the water, most Beginner and Advanced Beginner classes are conducted in Collins Cove which is best viewed from the beach at the Salem Willows Park. Also, feel free to use the picnic tables and other seating areas outside the Jubilee YC building, however, do not use the second floor outside deck, Lounge or second floor bathrooms unless accompanied by a Jubilee YC member.

What should my child bring to class?
Life jackets are worn at all times on the water so your child should have one that fits well and is comfortable to wear. Closed toe shoes are to be worn and sunscreen should be applied before the student arrives for class. Good additions are: extra sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a towel, a sweatshirt, a drink and a snack. Adventure Sailors and Racers must bring a lunch on the full day schedules.

Can valuables be left in the Sandy Point Room?
Nothing of value should be left in the Sandy Point Room. The Instructors will lock up valuables before heading out to the water. It is your child’s responsibility to give valuables to the Instructor. Sandy Point Sailing Association cannot be responsible for any lost items.

Should I let you know if my child will miss a class?
Yes, please contact the Registrar, Kim Leonardi, at 978-887-3258 by 7:30am if your child will not be in class that day. Instructors may provide additional information regarding notification.

Do classes run when it rains?
Class will be held and unless there are thunderstorms, students may be on the water.

Can a missed class be made up?
Classes cannot be made up without prior permission from the Registrar and the Instructor.

Why does my child spend so much time at the Advanced Beginner Level?
Sailing is a skill sport requiring time and experience to achieve excellence. At Sandy Point, the Advanced Beginner is a collaborative sailor who works with others to rig, crew and captain the boat. The Intermediate sailor is capable of solo sailing in variable conditions and is able to rig and de-rig the boat alone.

When will the T-shirts be handed out?
T-shirts are given out the last day of class. If you know your child will miss the last day of class please inform the Instructor so we can make arrangements to get one to you. T-shirts will be provided for only one session when multiple sessions are taken.
