Sandy Point Racing Team
The Racing Team is for those sailors who not only have demonstrated sailing proficiency after completing the Learn to Sail program, but also have a need for speed. Students will practice competitive starts and mark roundings, and will learn racing rules and tactics. Students are introduced to match racing, team racing, and fleet racing under the leadership of US Sailing Level II certified instructors.
Classes are held Monday, Tuesday, and Friday form 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM and Wednesdays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM from June 27th through August 19th. Additionally, and at the option and sole discretion of the student's parent or guardian, each student will be introduced to a boat that sails regularly on Thursday nights out of Jubilee Yacht Club to broaden the student's racing experience.

 Marblehead Junior Race Week

The best way to become a better racer is to race other sailors from across the country. Although we encourage our racers to participate in as many junior regattas as possible, we actively support the participation in Marblehead Junior Race Week hosted by Pleon YC in mid-July. Racers are allowed to use Sandy Point Club 420s and Optimist Dinghies to participate in the regatta and coaching support and a safety boat is also provided to the participants.
See Pleon's website Pleon.org for more information.
 NEW! Interclub Team Racing

Last summer was the introduction of interclub team racing. A great way to measure your racing skill is to team race other junior sailing programs.
Teams consisting of 3 boats compete together. A boat is awarded points based on the place it finishes a race and the winning team is decided by adding together the places of all the boats in each team. The team with the fewest points wins. Many times it is not the fastest team that wins, but the one that understands the racing rules of sailing to the highest degree.
